I looked at the boxes and couldn't believe how many had arrived. For the past year, we've been receiving boxes from Amazon, but the amount of packages had substantially increased in the past few days. As I opened box after box, I realized that Jesus was using this unlikely resource to provide for our little program. Here...let me give a little back story.
Over a year ago, I ordered some jewelry repair kits from a company on Amazon. I didn't really pay attention to the company; I simply ordered 12 jewelry repair kits to bring to ladies in our job creation program, Landmine Design. They were delivered within a few days -- Amazon is crazy fast! The very next day, I received an email from Dallas, the owner of the jewelry repair kit company (Hey Dallas!). Because I had ordered 12, he became curious as to who Landmine Design was, so he went searching social media.
Dallas was really intrigued by what he read and decided to reach out. He said our work was inspiring and that he was moved by all he read. He asked if I would be interested in receiving returned merchandise. As it turns out, Dallas is Canadian and sells on Amazon in the US. If a product is returned to his shipping department in the US, it costs too much money to send it back to Canada and costs even more to dispose of it. So, Dallas wondered if we would be interested in receiving products that are returned.
Being a shrewd dutch woman, I certainly couldn't turn down a deal like that! So, I happily agreed! Ever since then, we've been receiving jewelry kits, grass clippers and leather tools in our weekly mail!
Dallas emailed me a few weeks ago asking if we still wanted to receive these things. I told him the grass clippers and leather tools weren't really things our ladies use, but the jewelry kits are amazing! This week, I opened a dozen boxes that contained over 15 jewelry repair kits. It was like Christmas morning around our office!
As it just so happens, I am reading the Gospels during this season of Lent. The day all those boxes arrived, I had read about Jesus' teaching on paying taxes. Jesus instructed Peter to go fishing, and that he would find the money to pay taxes in the mouth of a fish. Before becoming a disciple, Peter was a fisherman. So it's interesting to me that Jesus told Peter to go fish...something he was already very familiar with. Peter obeyed and the first fish he caught had a coin in its mouth -- just like Jesus said. How crazy is that? Jesus provided for a former fisherman through the mouth of a fish!
The ways of Jesus are like that, aren't they? He provides! Sometimes, it's through the mouth of a fish; sometimes its through generous donations; and sometimes its through a Canadian company needing a way to handle returned merchandise.
This year, I'll be bringing to Cambodia a whole suitcase of jewelry repair kits that have been sent to us free of charge. What an incredible thing!! Dallas, thank you for having the idea to do this! And please know, Jesus is using your 'problem' to provide for women all the way in Cambodia!!
Grateful for the ways of Jesus!
